About us

We are the Lichtenberg Chamber Choir, an dedicated chamber choir with approximately 30 singers from Berlin-Lichtenberg and surroundings.

What we do and how

The choir was founded in 2011 and has since grown both in size and musically.

Every 6 months we prepare a programme that challenges us, and gives us the opportunity to develop vocally. The focus of the choir is on a cappella music from different time periods and genres, from the Renaissance till today. An additional special focus of the choir is working with music from other cultural spheres – world music in its broadest sense. A couple of jazz and pop choir arrangements also make their way into the programme.

In addition to our regular rehearsals and vocal development we also have selected projects where we work with musicians, producers and coaches to develop further in specific fields. Openness and a willingness to experiment are important aspects of choral singing. For example, in addition to our regular concert programme we carried out an opera project, produced videos, and delved deeper into the topic of stage presence.

Concerts

We aspire to stage musically challenging, entertaining and interactive concerts. To that end we adopt different sound formations and make use of the acoustics of the performance space to produce a varied programme.

We rehearse once a week (Thursday 8 to 10pm, not during school holidays) and have two additional rehearsal days and two choir weekends per year.

Choir community

We are connected by a passion for singing, an interest in expanding our repertoire, the sense of community that we experience in the choir, and communal activities for (further) developing our choral sound. We are also very open to new members and are always happy to receive interesting enquiries. The usual procedure is that after taking up contact you have the possibility of attending a few trial rehearsals, followed by an audition with the choir conductor and then (hopefully) joining the association (Verein). Our choir members are mostly from Lichtenberg, Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Treptow.
